Lake City Community Church Missions

The money from our Wedding Money Tree that has been used through Lake City Community Church has been directed toward the efforts of Voice for Christ Ministries.

Two efforts specifically were helped with the Wedding Money Tree funds. This page also shows some of our other involvement with Voice for Christ Ministries. We have really enjoyed the opportunity to be a part of this ministry and, through our Wedding Money Tree, help you share in it as well. For more information on this ministry you might want to check out this article in Mission Network News.

This money was directed towards sending youth from Lake City Community Church to Alaska and equipping them to work on the preparations for the Big Lake radio station site. The Big Lake radio station(KAGV) is an exciting opportunity to add to the network of radio stations of Voice for Christ Ministries. This site is near Anchorage and has been approved for 10kW of AM broadcast. $1200.00 Click here for a slide show of pictures from the Summer 2002 youth trip
Our first trip. We spent 2 months living and working at the KIAM facilities in Nenana, Alaska. The work here really was a nice fit for us. We worked on computers for the first few weeks. Within the first few weeks Kristan had learned the basics of on-air and she began taking regular air shifts for the rest of our time there. Karl had lots of fun fixing and building things in addition to some behind the scenes radio work.

Our second trip to KIAM was in the middle of the winter over Christmas break 2003. Kristan took air-shifts all but two days, allowing staff to spend a little more time with their families and Karl worked on a few upgrades and got enough courage to do his first on-air work (a commercial for heating equipment, a rather appropriate commercial as daily high temps were ~ -10 deg F). We were priviledged to take a ski-plane trip out to a listener's home in the bush with many thanks to our friends Adam and Lyndy.

During the Summer of 2004, while Kristan was busy in classes at the University of Washington's Tacoma campus, Karl had the opportunity to go with a construction team from Lake City Community Church to work on the KAGV facilities. The team got most of the AC wiring done in both the transmitter and studio buildings as well as getting the insulation in and starting on the sheetrock work on the studio building.

This money was spent preparing the KAGV studios with the required software etc. We spent our Christmas vacation working at the new KAGV facilities. We enjoyed "camping" in a work trailer at the transmitter site and helping out at the station. Kristan did a Classical Christmas show with plenty of good brass traditional favorites. $3000.00 Click here for a slide show of pictures from the December 2004 trip
